Please vote NO on H.R. 5087
H.R. 5087 was introduced into Congress on February 26, 2018 and basically seeks to make the second amendment all but a memory. While it is not a repeal of the second amendment, it may as well be with everything it is calling for a ban on.
The text of the Bill includes scary terms like 'assault weapon' and 'assault rifle' and appears to have been purposely worded to include nearly every firearm commonly available today.
The terms 'assault weapon', 'assault gun', 'assault rifle' etc, stem from the term 'assault rifle' first coined by Adolph Hitler during World War 2. It was meant as a propaganda tool to make the new MP43/MP44 machine pistols sound more 'scary'. Those who would seek to limit our second amendment are using these terms in the exact same way.
According to The Encyclopedia Britannica, the term 'assault rifle' today is a rifle that can switch from semi-automatic to fully-automatic fire. Firearms that have this capability are already restricted under the National Firearms Act of 1934, which was amended by the Gun Control Act of 1968 to cure a flaw in the 1934 Act with respect to the registration of already-owned firearms.
It also seeks to limit magazine capacity to ten (10) rounds. If passed, H.R. 5087 would in one instant make current law-abiding citizens into criminals simply because their firearm came standard with a magazine larger than ten (10) rounds. This covers, again, most firearms commonly available today.
We, the people, urge our lawmakers to protect our Constitutional rights and vote no on H.R. 5087.
