It makes no sense to base child support on an amount that can and will change drastically, especially if a service member is stationed overseas. Allowances are given to ensure soldiers have a roof over their head, utilities, and basic subsistence. No one else should be entitled to that. -

It is unfair to put soldiers on an unfair situation when it comes to divorce issues specially putting more cash on women trying to get more income at the expense of soldiers.REPORT COMMENTS

BAH is SPECIFICALLY for the soldier to live as an incentive to that SOLDIER and so is things like clothing allowances and JUMP pay... BASE pay is to be contributed to the child. Not the means the Army provides for ME to live. I'm providing over 1200 a month to someone with three other kids and the father of those children doesnt have a job, nor pays child support. I am paying for their whole family!!! The only responsibility I have is to my daughter and my son. Not hair, nails, outfits, and bills that would have to be paid rather I was paying child support or not.REPORT COMMENTS

Including any other income besides base pay when computing child support is preposterous. There are five members in my new family, and only two in theirs. I work and my wife stays at home with the kids because its cost effective. The other family has two incomes. But I pay the support? They make just as much as I do! Ridiculous.REPORT COMMENTS

BAH is for the member to offset the cost of living on the economy. It is not for the other parents benefit. I was shocked when I found out BAH was considered as income in the child support calculations. I wonder why?!REPORT COMMENTS

I experienced this when I moved from a higher-cost living area to a lower-cost living area; my BAH decreased $1000, yet I am still paying based upon the high-cost living area. I am currently revisiting child support modification (it's been a lengthy process since we live in separate states). Another option is to consider BAH w/ and w/out dependent. If paying for one child, they should receive the difference of with and without BAH rate since BAH is the amount that changes due to a PCS move. I'm aware that there are complications and various scenarios that would make this concept not feasible, but it's a start. The current system is far from feasible. Any constructive ideas?REPORT COMMENTS
