There is a point here that hasn't been addressed or emphasized enough yet. The pay cuts will mean a cut in the hours Agents will be available to "work the line.' Border Patrol is unique, even to any other type of law enforcement, in that the border needs to have 24/7 coverage 365 days a year. Overtime has made it possible to provide overlapping shifts to provide that needed coverage. Also overtime is absolutely necessary if agents are working a chase or are in the middle of processing a case. The timing couldn't be worse than right now when the Immigration Reform issue is so important. They say border enforcement will be a most important step in controlling our borders, yet the proposal, in essence, will reduce the man hours available to do the job. Other than the military, the Border Patrol has always been our first line of defense when it comes to protecting our nation. Don't reduce thier effectiveness by cutting their hours.REPORT COMMENTS
