I never got a tattoo while I served and always regretted that decision. Many of my brother Marines had tats, these were always respectful and patriotic. I do not support the Marine Corps Tattoo Policy. This needs to be amended to make it fair or repealed all together.

We should be allowed to get what ever we desire its our body but as long as it does not discriminate in any way.

Hello, I'm currently 21, Married, and have a child on the way. I want to do something that my son and wife would be proud of. I want to be a U.S. Marine. However because of the current tattoo policy that is currently quite impossible. I am phisically fit, well trained in the use of multiple firearms (my step father was in the army), and well learned in the application of small unit tactics ( though they haven't been able to be tested yet). However I have a tattoo on the underside of my forearm which is to large according to the Marine's Tattoo Policy.

I am already in law enforcement. I have worked for a large police department in the Atlanta area for over three years. Visible tattoos are not allowed but I can choose to wear long sleeves, or wear an arm band on the forearm where I have a tattoo. I also have a tattoo on the other wrist which is covered by my watch band. My department's academy was six months long and they are constantly paying and sending me and other officers to various schools on drugs, and ways to do our job better such as combatives, firearms, tactics, At 25 years old I am not able to join the marine corps due to 3 small tattoos but others who are out of shape or have criminal records are enlisting every day.

I understand the rules and regulations to the Corps value! Yhis is discriminating and ridiculous, that I can not serve my country and fight for what us americans charish so much and that is our freedom. Someone in congress and in the corp needs to really change this policy on tattoo's. Marines are meant to fight and defend, not look pretty or make a fashion statement.

I have two tattoos, both being neither disrespectful nor gang related. I have both on right & left forearm that say "my pride" on the right and "our honor" on the left. They are almost two inches if not more than two inches away from my wrist, and this is preventing me from joining the marines. I been wanting to join since child, and my tattoo prevents me. I did 4 semesters of college, so the marines is not my only option in life by far, but it's something I want to do for myself and my country. These policies are discriminating and judgmental, and shouldn't exist to this extent.

what else can be said that hasnt already been said? its a disgusting insult to americans who want to serve their country. im sick of being discriminated against for simply choosing to get a tattoo. i have a tattoo on my right under-wrist, its a blue arrow that represents that i am a sagittarius. i am literally one half of an inch away from serving my country as a marine. i will need to go to the army instead. i cant remove it because it is a light blue ink which does not respond to laser treatment. i have 37 college credit hours. truly, truly insulting, disrespectful, and inappropriate. i strongly feel that this is wrong on many levels. i could not type the amount of frustration. thats life, people will always tell you that you arent good enough for things like this.

Got out for the wrong reasons. But have been trying to get back in for over three years. First OCS denied then enlisted denied. My forearm tattoo shows a little under my hand. Not letting the Marine Corps leadership continue to serve.

I have "Victoria Perseverantia Sacrificum" tattooed on my chest. it mean's victory, Perseverance, Sacrifice. The letter's are not above either of my collarbones but due to the open collar of the short sleeve khaki shirt, without an undershirt the letter's VER in Perseverantia show. This tattoo is the only reason the RS turned me away. I went to another recruit station in my area to see if i could get somebody to send a waiver to see if there is anything they could do, but they said they dident want to risk sending out a waiver for a tattoo that they werent 100% shure was going to get approved. im looking for another way to address my situation. any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

My tattoo would not/does not affect the way I conduct myself everyday. This policy needs to change, all men are created equal. It does not say unless they have a tattoo. They are turning down people who have dreamed of being Marines since childhood and might I add would make great Marines.Something needs to be done about this.

I never wanted anything more than to be a Marine. I was a confused soul for many years and knew nothing in reference to what I wanted other than to train with the best, be the best, earn the title of Marine and succeed like I knew I could. Despite my prime physical condition, respectful show of dedication and accumulated disciplines I was denied a chance because my recruiter stated "your waiver will probably be denied so we're not going to do it." That in itself left a very poor impression of the Corps in my eyes considering he knew it was possible but was unwilling to work with me. I also fully understand the reasoning behind this act, but it is simply ludicrous to deny a chance. After much research and continued traing I am now working towards the next best thing; to follow my uncle's footsteps and try my luck at earning the right to be called a green beret. Hooah

I am a high school student who wishes to enlist in the Marine Corps when I get out from high school. I currently do not have any tattoos, but I have many friends who do have tattoos or are tattoo artists and I am a big fan of the art, the styles, and will be soon getting some ink myself. I do not want the artwork on my body, a representation of my values and life, to hinder or disqualify me from joining the Service when I choose to. A tattoo does not stop a man or a woman from becoming the best he can be or hinder them from performing the task that they have in front of them.
