I agree. This is discrimination! Get rid of this policy. If our men and women are drafted I doubt this would even matter. -

yeah this tattoo policy******is ********! i grew up wanting to be a marine and was supposed to go in under the buddy system with two of my best friends and they denied me for me having a eagle with a banner around it saying in honor of chris basham ( my father who passed away 6 months before going to boot camp ) i decided a tattoo would be a good way to recognize him as a big part of my life. i can cover almost the whole tattoo with my hand. but the recruiter and meps marine personal decided to decline me for a tattoo that means nothing harmful! this ****ed me off just because i have a tattoo doesn't mean i am not a MARINE AT HEART!REPORT COMMENTS

I have wanted to join the marines for years but then I got married and now I finally decided I'm going to join. I just went to a recruiter today he saw the 4 tattoos I have (Not monstrous ones) on my arms and said I most likely can't join because of them. I asked about getting a waver but he said can't do it. I dont have anything offensive or racist and I got them years ago. I dont get it my dream of serving my country and becoming a marine was shattered in just 10min of walking in the recruiting stationREPORT COMMENTS

This policy needs to be dropped, I agree like all others , I understand image. But just because we have tattoos doesn't mean we can't do our job like any other person, doesn't mean we are any different. We like to show our pride on our body's. I had 4 tattoos when I joined 2 on my arms. While I was in I also got 2 more on my arms. As soon as the order was restricted in 2007, I photographed and grandfathered in (so they say) , I'm now trying to re-enlist in my beloved Corps, but was told NOPE. I don't understand I was grandfathered and I can't even get back in, this is crap. I have more tattoos now, but none others show except my arm tattoos. I'm sorry but this is BS. My pride is just as strong as another without tattoos. I want to protect my country just as much as another. And I'm denied the right.REPORT COMMENTS

I also understand that our apperance is everything, and can uderstand if someone has tattoos all over their face and full body tattoos, but i have one small tattoo that is on my left hand, its completely tiny, and have actually tried to remove it but its a long drawn out process that I myself dont have time or money to do, i have a job and child to take care of. All i so badly want is to serve in the united states marine corps and would be so proud to do so, but im stopped by something so small and trivial. Mr. president and senators can you please help me. In this case anyone of you would have my votes, and even though im not qualified would publically speak for you all, on the things you are trying to accomplish for the goodREPORT COMMENTS

I believe that the tattoo policy should be dropped completely. I am dq for a tattoo on my hand. Which is a small one, the size of a nickel. I just think that if a man or women wants to serve their country they should be able to no matter what!!!! I think its selfish and unpatriotic for the tattoo policy to be placed. How is this a free country when we are limited to subject such as we can freely get a tattoo but if in the wrong spot cant freely join the marines. But if we join the marines we cant freely get tattoos anywhere. Not free at all, maybe we need new people in office example president and sgt major of the corps and anybody whos in control of this.REPORT COMMENTS

I don't feel it's right to change policies when ppl already had tattoos..that shouldn't change who you are..I understand appearance is everything, but it shouldn't change how they do their job...REPORT COMMENTS

I completely agree, but I have a question, it is in no way meant to be offensive to this letter, it is simply a question. In this letter it states that tattoos were allowed as long as "they are not vulgar." Well my question is, what is considered "vulgar"? What may be vulgar to the Marines, may not be vulgar to me, and vice versa, so how do you get around that generalization? They could say one tattoo is vulgar and not the other? Who decides what is vulgar, and it may be because of that generalization that they were able to tighten up on this policy. Just a question, and I hope it can be answered without any attacks on me, or my lack of knowledge on this policy. Thank youREPORT COMMENTS

Marines get tattoos, what is the problem. We w]are turning the Marine Corps into a bunch of school boy looking geeks. Stop the madness, let us be what we came to the Marine Corps to be...men. Pretty soon our rough and tough image will go away... Morons... If I wanted to be clean cut with no ink I'd have joined a ****ing monestary.REPORT COMMENTS
