I purchased my first Jeep a year and a half ago. I had no intention of purchasing a Jeep Compass, I was looking at Fords and Saabs. I happened to go by the Tarbox Jeep Dealership in North Kingstown and pulled in. It was a small dealership and everyone there made you feel as if you were part of the family. Using their service department is fantastic. I take my husbands 2008 Lincoln to Tasca Ford/Lincoln, a large dealership in RI and feel that I am just a number. It is a shame that the Chrysler Corporation and our Government is seeking to ruin our smaller companies and control the American Public with large companies, no choice and large overhead. If Tarbox stays open, I again next year will purchase another Jeep. If not I may look to another type vehicle, even thought this is a car that I love.May 20th, 2009Someone from Pittsburgh, PA signed.

I've worked for the same dealer for 36 years never did i beleive the us auto industry could fall apart like this also in all this mess you have created monopolies for the saved dealers. now all auto repair shops and body shops will be subject to dealing with only 1 dealer THAT will cost the consumer dearly as their cars get olderREPORT COMMENTS

Tarbox Jeep is a terrific dealership that I have bought by Jeeps from for over 20 years and have serviced them there as well. Both my husband and I have purchased jeeps here in the past. I do believe that Tarbox Jeep is more than pulling its weight. They have exceeded their limits in sales and in salesmanship. It is not fair for them to become "unemployed" and it is not fair for "us" to loss such a wonderful service and dealership. Stop this from happening.REPORT COMMENTS

The fact that Chrysler is closing profitable dealerships is insane. I know that Chrysler perceives that it is more desirable to have all three dealerships in the same location, however Jimmy owns all three brands and I am sure that if given half a chance to use the resources, which he and his family possess, could satisfy any requirement imposed upon him. In addition the other Chrysler dealer in town (that is to remain open) is owned by 65 year old women with no capable heir to take over the dealership when she can no longer run it. Not that it is run that well now. I know Jimmy moved more product with is stand alone Jeep store than she did with the Chrysler/Dodge shop. That store owenership is not a stable, nor do they market the product well, preferring to think that thing in this town are the same as they were 30 years ago. Reconsider your decision and keep a young vivant Chrysler owner in North Kingstown RI. Chris Collins 45 Elm Dr. North Kingstown RI 02852REPORT COMMENTS

I have dealt with Tarbox Jeep for nearly 30 years. My family bought its first Jeep from Tarbox in 1990 and currently owns two Jeeps (2000 & 2001), both bought at Tarbox. All my service work is done at Tarbox. They are a terrific dealership and I can't imagine being without them. Chrysler has no right to close a dealership that provides outstanding service.REPORT COMMENTS

Gentlemen, I am sure you have received this letter from numerous other individuals, and I don't know that I agree with the entire dialog, so I deleted it. As a tax payer and prior military service professional working in the auto industry, I would like to know what criteria were used to select dealerships for closure. I would expect that a business model was developed and certain key factors identified to ensure the long term success of the Chrysler Brand. What were these factors? In my opinion, I would expect that no feelings should be involved but sound business data. My opinion is biased however. My brother-in-law, Jim Tarbox, happens to own a dealership that was selected for closure in Rhode Island. This was a shock to me as he is one of the best performing dealerships in the country with respect to sales volume; again business data, no feelings. So if volume of car sales was not the number one factor for selecting dealership closures, what was? If Chrysler had never taken tax payers money I would expect you to tell me this was none of my business. But, they did so I feel that it is. Why would we not pick and choose the strongest dealerships throughout the country to help both Chrysler and GM emerge from this crisis? The company I work for makes car parts, and the more cars a dealership sells and services, the better! Please look into the factors which resulted in the closure of Tarbox Jeep in Rhode Island. Was this decision made base on sounds business or less creditable factors? How many other dealerships have been unjustly eliminated? Thank You! Very Respectfully, David BuehlerREPORT COMMENTS

My wife and I have purchased many cars over the years from many dealers and Tarbox Motors is without equal! They leave you with a feeling of trust and secure that you have dealt with people that have your best interests in mind. Their service department is top notch and we realy feel comfortable dealing with them. I have lots of experience with cars and engines and know if I'm being lied to and they never try to take advantage, this is rare in my experience with car dealers in general. It would truly be a shame if one of the good ones was eliminated in this reorganization and personaly I would still go to Tarbox even if they were forced into selling used cars or another brand. We actually went out of our way to purchase from Tarbox instead of our local Chrysler dealer, America Chrysler Dodge in Westerly RI. It would be a real shame to eliminate the best dealer in the area.REPORT COMMENTS

It is a crime to shut such great businesses down. Please consider the people who work here, their families as well as the business they bring to the areas of our communities that they service.REPORT COMMENTS

It is outragous to think that our government is involved in any way towards a bailout of a consumer product. It is sinful that after taking my money Chrysler abandons the dealerships who are part of our communities. To stick it to the dealerships for the parts and inventory shows a lack of support to those that made you all the money in the beginning. This is wrong in so many ways.REPORT COMMENTS

I love my Jeeps and its a great brand. Damn you Chrylser for taking govt. money plus telling your dealerships to buy your stock and then you tell them to take a hike. Its typical that the CEO Nardelli who made Home Depot's stock drop $50 would take down another US icon. Keep the dealers in businessREPORT COMMENTS
