They are destroying lives. Not just the dealers but all of their employees. What ever happened to the better business' survive and the weak go away. Leave the dealers alone and give them time and the weak will close!

To fix the horrible economy you'll put MORE people out of work? C'mon get a clue. You'll help the Wall Street fat cats and their million dollar donations to elections but you won't help the actual working slobs your supposed to be representing. Nice. I think all of Washington needs to attend a basic Economics 101 course at their local college. HELP US NOW! When we are all living in cardboard boxes this entire country will collapse. Where will your millions be then? You'll have to wallow among us "little people". Scary isn't it?

Tarbox Jeep in North Kingstown sells over 600 vehicles per year. This is a political decision within Chrysler, not an economically valid decision. We value our dealer!

I am 70 years old and have been buying cars and Jeeps and getting them serviced since 1961. Because I was in the Army for 27 years I moved around a lot - - lived in 12 cities in 8 other states. And in all those years and places, I never experienced such good service. Tarbox Jeep is a dealership which Chrysler should use as a model for other dealerships. It makes absolutely no sense to close this dealership.

NADA?s lobbying appears to be taking root Congressional lawmakers are starting to line up in opposition to the closing of so many dealerships (5/19/2009) DealersEdge Daily Headlines When 150 dealers and NADA officials did the rounds on Capitol Hill last week, initially there was little evidence that their pleadings had helped shape the debate. Senator Nelson of Nebraska was the only lawmaker to speak out immediately. However, as the days pass, that list is getting longer. An article appearing yesterday in the ST. Louis Business Journal indicates that Senator Dick Durbin, D-Ill has written a letter to both Chrysler and GM asking them to reconsider the announced dealership closings, specifically asking them to take into account the impact these closings will have on the local communities at a very difficult time. You might think that writing to the President, or at least his Automotive Task Force might be a better idea. In spite of trying to create a very different impression, they do appear to be pulling the strings. Durbin has been joined by Congressmen Blaine Luetkemeyer and John Shimkus in voicing their displeasure with the closing of so many dealerships nationwide. Interestingly, the congressmen are both republicans and their protests were directed at the task force and not the automakers. Perhaps they recognize who is calling the shots? According to a quote from the letter written by Luetkemeyer and Shimkus, they wrote, ?Since these dealer reductions and its ripple effects would have a serious and adverse impact on the United States, we would like to ask that you revisit the forced closure of thousands of dealerships. To justify these job losses, the task force is apparently relying on a misperception that new car dealers create a cost burden to auto manufacturers. This is not true, as on average about 90 percent of an automaker?s revenue comes from dealers purchasing the automakers? vehicles. Far from saving money, a rapid reduction in dealerships would further reduce GM?s and Chrysler?s revenue and market share.? It seems that Ford agrees with the congressmen about the immediate impact of these planned closings. KEEP THE PRESSURE ON!!!!!!!

I can't imagine our town without Tarbox Jeep. They are a vital part of our community - a good source of jobs, supporting local sports, and contributing to tax revenue. They run their business ethically and are a role model for other family businesses and entrepreneurs. I bought my Jeep from Tarbox and would not consider buying one from anyone else.

Read today's edition of the "Automotive News", www.autonews.com. In today's edition you will see that Chrysler is seeking new dealers in small select markets under their program called "Project Genesis". I guess Chrysler has no problem attempting to shut down 789 franchised dealers, and then turn around just to take people's money to open new franchises. Interesting.

The terminated dealers should be compensated for the loss of the franchise and Chrysler should be required to buy back all vehicles and parts from the affected dealers.
